My Passion
Policy + urban design + analytics.
These are my strengths and my passions that have been informed by extensive reading, literature reviews, and practical application of policies guiding both current and long-range planning process and case reviews.
I believe my ambition and ability to problem solve and propose unique (and informed) ideas will be an asset to any organization. Contact me and let's work together to make places, invent spaces, and generally promote great communities.

Profession
Planner with the City of Maricopa, Development Services Department (July 2014 - Present).
My priorities are to assist at the front counter, aid and manage Planning Technicians with intake and routing, review as many simultaneous current planning cases as possible, keep notes for future text amendments to adopted policies, assist applicants, review applications for code compliance, run many meetings, make presentations on cases or policy development to boards, committees, the commission and council.
The City provides me with extensive exposure to many cases, some with difficult development constraints. Case types include use permits, zoning master planned communities, review of improvement plans, parking studies, variances, architectural design reviews, sign permits, and long-range input. I have been part of adopting a completely rewritten zoning code, updating a general plan (comprehensive), applying a new transportation plan to amend current planning codes for implementation, and seeking grants through different funding sources.
I serve on the Innovation Committee (City's approach to Smart City strategies) & the Bike and Pedestrian Committee for the regional MPO.
Land Planning Consultant with Iplan Consulting (March 2013 - July 2014).
As I earned the trust of the company's leadership, I became involved in a variety of assigned tasks and project management, including submittal preparation (various planning case types), neighborhood meetings, website design, graphic design, due diligence research, and notification requirements. For reference, see Greg Davis.
Greg Davis, President of Iplan Consulting:
"Ryan is a highly capable planner that can react quick to our always urgent industry. He would make a fine addition to someone's planning/development team."
Intern with Town of Queen Creek, Planning Department
(April 2012 - Feb 2013).
I quickly became involved with zoning and plan review, architectural design review, public participation (implementation and review), web content management, site visits, GIS mapping, and procedural streamlining. While at Queen Creek, I worked under Dave Williams, Senior Planner.
Dave Williams, Senior Planner, Queen Creek:
"I can attest to [Ryan's] strong work ethic and broad knowledge base in the planning arena, GIS and economic modeling."
I served as ASU's Student Representative for Arizona's Chapter of American Planning Association (AZAPA) from August 2011 through May 2012. I volunteered to design and layout Vision, AZPA's Newsletter (2012).
Interned with City of Mesa,
Economic Development Department
(June 2011 - Dec 2011).
My internship offered great insights into the day to day operations of Arizona's 3rd largest city. I continue to study and read extensively on the role of urban design and affects on business diversity and local business opportunity.
